This year's Autumn Fair will play host to Global Handicraft, a new showcase of artisanal products from across the world. With the £3 billion UK craft industry growing by 4.5 per cent each year, the trend for artisanal products has become a key feature of the home and gift market, and it will be a major part of this year's event.

The Global Handicraft segment will allow manufacturers to display bespoke products from disciplines including jewellery, fine ceramics, exotic textiles and quirky lighting, and will enable retailers to be the first to stock these rare and unusual items.

The showcase will run for the full length of the fair, which takes place at NEC Birmingham from 2nd-5th September 2018. It will also feature live demonstrations from talented craftspeople, and a programme of seminars explaining how retailers can take advantage of the booming handicraft market.

“Consumers have made it clear they want to connect with the products they buy and know how they were created ,” says Louise Young, managing director of Spring and Autumn Fair at Ascential Events. “With this new section, buyers can get their hands on products that are handmade, inspiring and steeped in culture, and get their orders in ahead of the competition.

“Global trend forecaster, WGSN, has been tracking this trend for a long time, and also predicts that it will become increasingly important across all interiors categories in the seasons to come,” continues Louise. “Autumn Fair is a retailers' gateway to the golden quarter – the show is perfectly timed for short orders, the key holiday selling period and is ideal for sourcing products in the first half of the following year. Handicraft is a growing source of revenue across the industry, from independent gift retailers to multi-store high street retailers.”

With shoppers increasingly aware of global environmental and social issues, the UK handicraft industry often presents buyers with the ethically and ecologically conscious merchandise that consumers now demand. To find out more about exhibiting, go to or call +44 (0)203 033 2548.
